At present, movies of RMVB or RM formats are quite widespread on the Internet, and the only thing we need to do is to click our mouse and get them downloaded. However, as for some professional clients, they want to convert their own sources into RMVB, and in the following passage, I am going to introduce the method of converting DVD programs into RMVB format. Soft wares required: (available on the Internet) Helix Producer Plus Empeg2dec (Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder) SmartRipper VobSub
Step 1 Copy the DVD content to hard disk with SmartRipper SmartRipper is a green soft ware, so you don’t need to install. You can just double click it and it will check the DVD automatically, as illustrated by the following picture.
After the check, it will enter the source interface.

The “Source” will display the specific information of the DVD disk, such as its volume, length, division, format, standard etc. In “Target”, choose the catalogue to store the file. Choose a catalogue with enough space, or the “Start” button won’t appear. (See the picture below)

Click “Stream Processing”, entering the audio set dialogue box. Choose Audio English AC3[2CH]48kHz is enough, since multi-audio channel doesn’t make much sense for RMVB.

On account of the default setting of SmartRipper, the body of the source programs will be stored as vts_01_1.vob,vts_01_2.vob...;but the Helix Producer Plus, which will be used later to make RMVB will extract only one piece of file at a time, not capable of doing that consecutively, therefore, before the extracting, we should click “Settings”, and change the “every vob-file” to “max-file size” in the “File-Splitting”, then the output files will be included in the file named under vts_01_1.vob. If the source body is larger than 4 GB, then we should adjust the maximum number in “max-file size”. After that, we click “OK” to copy the DVD files. (See the picture below)

Corresponding information are displayed when extracting the source, just as shown below:

After the extracting, there will be a notice.

Then we completed the first step.
Step 2 Extract source title with VobSub
Install VobSub, after which find VobSub catalogue in Program Group, and start “VobSub Configure”. ( See the picture below )

Click “Open” to open the subtitle file with a suffix of .ifo.

The system will notice you to select the storing catalogue, and we must select the disk where the source program has been stored, as shown below

Click “OK”, and you will see the picture below:

Choose the subtitle that you need. After the selection, don’t click “OK”, but click “I striped source files and crossed my fingers”, and then the program will extract the required subtitle automatically.

Click “OK”, and you can edit the subtitle, such as its color, etc. (See the picture below)

Click “OK”, we will have two subtitle files in the selected catalogue, vts_01_0.sub and vts_01_0.idx. Then you have to make their name the same as VOB files. Turn vts_01_0.idx and vts_01_0.sub into vts_01_1.idx, vts_01_1.sub and vts_01_1.vob, then the subtitle can be simultaneously embedded by VobSob when compressing the movie into RMVB with Helix Producer Plus later.

Step 2 is over.
Step 3 Make RMVB with Helix Producer Plus
Install and open the Helix Producer Plus.

Click the “Browse” button shown above, and open the files that are to be converted into RMVB.

Select “ALL Files(*.*)” in File Types, and find the VOB files. Click “Open”. You may ask why the Helix Producer Plus has no response when the VOB files are opened. Well, this is normal, because Helix Producer Plus doesn’t support VOB files, then what shall we do? Now, we should use Empeg2dec(Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder)to make Helix Producer Plus to be capable of identifying VOB files. The following is what is included in Empeg2dec:

Double click “register. bat”, and the system will have a DOS window, registering some corresponding files, which will close itself after a few seconds, then it means the decoder has been installed successfully, and the Helix Producer Plus will be able to recognize VOB files. On the right side of the host interface of Helix Producer Plus, there will be the default RM format. We should delete it, since RM is of poor quality. What we need is RMVB, which has a way better quality. (See the picture below)

Click “ Listener”, entering the encoding set dialogue.

General video encode should be closed, since it doesn’t have much improvement, while occupies much resources. Delete all of the 4 templates in Audieces in job:4(sureStream), choose an variable bit-stream RMVB format from the left template, and put it into the right box.

I selected 450k VBR Download, but you can select it according to your own need, and then double click the right template, entering the setting interface. (See the picture below)

The “Target Frequency” can be adjusted according to different standard. Usually, NTSC is 30FPS, and 25FPS for PAL. Other selection can follow the default ones, and then click “High-grade Video” to set the video.

Then go back to the home interface of Helix Producer Plus:

Click REALONE to adjust the name of the RMVB file and its storing catalogue.

Save it and go back to the home interface of Helix Producer Plus. Then click “Encode”.

Well, we will just stop here, and definitely there are lots of aspect worth further exploring, and it is your own homework. |
